Bush/Cheney not appearing in primetime is a blessing in disguise

By Chris Ingram

With the media hype over hurricane Gustav bearing down on the Gulf Coast you would think the storm devastation had already occurred. John McCain and the G.O.P., not taking any chances of being directly reminded of George W. Bush’s inept response to hurricane Katrina (the media will do that), have cancelled tonight’s primetime convention activities.

John McCain’s prayers have been answered. The prayer went something like this:

Dear God,

I have been your faithful servant for many years. Your support when I was in the Hanoi Hilton saved my life. For that I thank you. (more…)

GOP nominee’s pick is the best since Kennedy picked LBJ – but for totally different reasons

By Chris Ingram

Slap me silly and call me stupid, but John McCain is on his way to being the 44th President of the United States of America.

Six months ago when Rush Limbaugh and Laura Ingraham were trashing McCain and arguing he is unelectable and “not conservative enough,” it was hard for even the most diehard McCain supporters like me to believe he had a chance of getting elected. (more…)

Did big speech in front of big crowd pay off? Or should we all be hitting the snooze button?

By Jamie Miller

In many ways, Barrack’s big gamble paid off but his speech fell flat.

Some of the issues that the Obama campaign had to overcome speaking in front of such a large crowd included the crowd appearing “cultish,” — which it didn’t; applause lines being too long, — which they weren’t; and whether speakers would feel the need to scream into the microphone, — which they did. And Now, the End Is Near; Time to Face the Final Curtain

By Chuck Muth

With the selection of Delaware Sen. Joe Biden as the Democrats’ vice presidential nominee this weekend, the 2008 presidential campaign, which actually began way back on November 3, 2004, is coming down the stretch. The Democrats will hold their national pep rally this week. Republican presidential nominee John McCain will announce his running mate in a couple days. And then the Republicans will hold their national pep rally the following week. From there, it’ll be a two-month sprint to the finish line on November 4. (more…)

Claims McCain is a racist

By Chris Ingram

Irreverent View occasionally solicits new author/contributors from time to time. We generally get a good response. There are always a couple of nut cases, but for the most part good people, mostly decent writers, and people with strong opinions. Then there are those who are just plain losers – different from the nut cases – these people are mad at the world but they are hapless bullies hiding behind the anonymity of the internet. (more…)

But don’t shed a tear…
By Chuck Muth

I really can’t stand labor unions. Despise them, actually. Then again, I’m sugar-coating it because I hate to use the word hate.

They promote Soviet-style collectivism. They promote a herd mentality while quashing independent thought and action. They lie, cheat and steal. They beat people up. They destroy private property. They’ve undermined the American work ethic. They’ve dampened the American entrepreneurial spirit. They’ve ruined the American public education system. They’ve destroyed the American steel industry. And they’ve devastated the American automobile industry. (more…)

We Got Zeal Too
By Larry Thornberry

TAMPA — I finally cornered one of the co-chairs of the McCain campaign for Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, and asked him this highly-nuanced political question:

“So, how are you going to get the locals to vote for a 72-year-old, charisma-challenged geezer? After all, they have the opportunity of voting for Mr. Wonderful, a glib matinee idol who has graciously signaled his willingness to delay his fast-track to sainthood in order to spend eight years in the White House and who has his supporters as excited as leprechauns on St. Patrick’s Day.” (more…)

Can any one of these people save the planet?

By Larry Thornberry

With Captain Kirk, Fancy Nancy Pelosi, and John McCain trying to save it, what chance has the planet got?

By now most folks who keep up with such things have heard that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced to an astonished world that she’s “trying to save the planet.” Hardly a modest mission, even for the self-styled most powerful woman on earth. (more…)

Reckless spending by the G.O.P. is the cause of our fiscal woes

By Chris Ingram

Make no mistake George W. Bush is no conservative. Sure, under the tutelage of Karl Rove, Bush managed to fool a significant number of voters into believing he shared their conservative values. But you can’t argue with his record: he’s a free-spending liberal who could make Ted Kennedy blush. (more…)

Obama goes into overdrive to fake foreign policy experience

Last week Barack Obama piled up more frequent flyer miles than in most campaign months. But did he win any votes by photo-opping and crooning his way across the Mideast and Europe in a week-long game of “Let’s Play President?” (more…)
