I also believe my friend Jamie Miller is incorrect about Charlie Crist running for reelection and that he will go for the U.S. Senate seat. Having first met the governor at a Sumter County Lincoln Day Dinner when he was a state senator and guest speaker and having followed his political career moving up the political ladder I believe he will continue to advance politically as the opportunity presents itself. It was I and not President George W. Bush that first called him “Chalkboard Charlie” when he became Education Commissioner. Having been the Sumter County Republican Party’s secretary, vice chairman, state committeman and chairman, I’ve “been there and done that” as far as helping get Republican candidates elected, only to be disappointed by most of their actions once they obtain office. Until the Republican Party runs some real conservatives instead of RINO’s I’ll continue to sit out the elections as far as political activism and like this year for the first time in 12 years, skip our county’s Lincoln Day Dinner.
