Bob Dole to run for Hillsborough REC Chairman
Art “Bob Dole” Wood expected to run for chairman. REC members should demand better.
By Chris Ingram
Earlier today Hillsborough County Republican Party Chairwoman Deborah Cox-Roush announced she is resigning to take a staff position with the Herman Cain for President campaign.
Cox-Roush’s departure means the Hillsborough Republican Executive Committee will have to hold a special election to replace her.
The expectation is that Vice-Chairman Art Wood will run to replace Cox-Roush.
Let’s hope someone else steps forward.
In just 13 weeks Florida will hold its Presidential Preference Primary. Just a little over six months later, Tampa will host the Republican National Convention. And just a short time after that the November elections will be upon us.
I get why so many people are saying Art Wood should be the next chairman. We in the GOP do this all the time: we anoint people because “it’s their turn.” So yeah, if we want to put somebody in place because it’s their turn, Art Wood’s the right guy.
But if we want someone who is young, dynamic, energetic, with fresh ideas, an engaging personality, and a willingness to step up for what is right, we have another choice. His name: Josh Burgin.
Readers of this column may be scratching their heads given some of the things I have written about Josh in the past. But the differences I had with him in the past were about my preferring his opponent, and that I thought Josh was too inexperienced to take on a county-wide commission position.
Not so as county party chairman. I’ve been a county party chairman myself, and I know what it takes.
And Josh Burgin has what it takes to be an effective leader as chairman of the county Republican Party.
Art Wood will be a nice placeholder, and that’s about it.
The party deserves better.

Would this be the same “Josh “bacon burger” Burgin: “Would you like fries with that Sam?” that you have grown to love? Do we get Sam with the deal, or just Chris calling the shots?

Thank God Josh is endorsing Art.

Art is the perfect choice at this point. Art is a person of integrity and wisdom. Art is someone that will bring people together and accomplish what the HCREC exists to do, get Republicans elected. Art has already gotten the support of the leadership of both Tea Party Movement leadership and 9-12 leadership. Josh Burgin has also endorsed Art.
I have found Art supportive and helpful and I am looking forward to helping him and the HCREC move the local party forward.
